How to use the Lucida font properly!

Feb 25, 2008 | Filed in: CSS, Fonts, Rants, Web Design

I’m seeing more and more websites that are not specifying the Lucida font correctly in web pages. I’m guessing the culprits are Mac users for one simple but obvious flaw. They specify Lucida Grande and/or Lucida Sans in their CSS and whilst this may be correct for Macs, the majority of internet users are on Windows and you need to call the correct font of Lucida Sans Unicode.

Work trip to Barcelona

Feb 24, 2008 | Filed in: Photography, Travel

Barcelona
Each year we run an incentive at Bluestone Creative to give everyone a bit of focus on the financial side of the business. This year we were rewarded with a trip to Barcelona. Despite a leaving England on a rather nippy February morning we arrived in the Catalan capital to glorious sunshine. We had 72 hours before the flight home, so cameras ready, prepare to flash!

The Banksy Petition to Hackney Council

Feb 21, 2008 | Filed in: Rants, Street Art & Graffiti

Banksy - Flower chucker
This week I’ve received a number of invites, through Facebook and email, to sign the petition to Hackney Borough Council to stop the removal Banksy’s art. I love his work and have a soft spot for all things ‘street’ since an early introduction to 80s Hip Hop culture and an ‘active’ interest in graffiti as a teenager, but to me one of the attractions of street art is the temporary nature of the works. Whether it’s removed by the authorities, painted over by other artists or simply wears away over time, street art should be left to its own fate.

Also, why should only Banksy’s work be excluded from graffiti removal? One of my biggest grips about Banksy’s fame is that there are many more stencil and graffiti artists around the world, but whenever a new piece of stencil art appears outside of Bristol or London it’s labeled a Banksy Rip-off! Ggrrrrr!!
